Here is our floor Slab!

Caitlyn was very excited when I told her that we had the concrete poured today, so another detour via the block on the way home!!

The floor looked amazing and and so good to see it all laid out.

Taken from the south west corner (Bedroom 3) and where the watertank will be sited

Taken from the north end of the property - about where the pool will be situated.
The lower concrete area is the alfresco.  Living room is to the left and garage to the right.

Our Slab is being poured!!

So excited .... called passed the block this morning expecting maybe the preparation for the foundation to be underway and they are pouring the floor slab!!!  Very impressed so far with the speed Plantation Homes are getting things done now we are underway .... long may it continue!

Any progress is good progress

I decided to call into the block at the last minute on the way home from work today, not really expecting to see anything more as they had said to not expect someone to be there every day.

So, I was very surprised to see that that had put some coarse gravel down over the entrance to the property and screened off the neighbouring frontages so that no damage would be done by trucks etc.  Very pleased to see Plantation Homes being very conscious in protecting the neighbours!!!

Site pegged out

We were pleasantly surprised when we visited the block again today to see they had been that morning to peg out where the house would be sited.

It was really good to see it all and get a feeling of the space we will have, particularly to the north where the pool and outdoor living will be located.

Landscaping Ideas

Have been playing around with some landscaping software to try and capture the 'feel' we are after for our pool/ alfresco area.

Really love the idea of creating a tropical/ resort feel with a lot of tropical planting in the north east corner.

Site Supervisor Allocated!

We received notification today that our file has now moved to the Construction Team and our Construction Supervisor will be in touch.

Shortly after, we received a call from Phil, our Construction Supervisor who seemed very nice and told us that they hoped to start on the site cut and fill tomorrow or Friday!

He also advised that they hope to get the slab poured by the end of next week (Week Ending 1 November) or early the following week.

The current build time (weather permitting) is around 4 months .... so we are looking to be on track for it to be complete by March .... which will be good timing for when our rental lease is up at Coolum.

Appliance Shopping!

So our next big purchase after putting down the deposit on the build was our appliances.

We opted to delete the builder supplied brands (Technica) as after a lot of research we found that they were not very good products.  So will be supplying our own.

So we are now the proud owners of:

  • A freestanding 90cm Blanco Oven
  • Blanco Rangehood
  • Samsung French Door 801L Fridge
  • LG 14-place anti-fingerprint stainless steel dishwasher.

Ticking along nicely ....

Things are ticking along nicely .....
We received our ACC (Authority to Commence Construction) from the Bank .... meaning that they agree to pay our progress payments and we also received our Final Drawings for sign-off from Plantation Homes with our Electrical variation requests.  Our file has now been moved into the "Production" phase at PH where they will allocate the labour and materials and a building supervisor.  This can take up to 2 weeks depending on the complexity - but hopefully will be sooner than that.

Things we need to sort out now are ....

  1. Kitchen Appliances (Free-standing Cooker, Range Hood and Dishwasher).  We have narrowed it down to two cookers so will visit Joyce Mayne this weekend to check out the current deals)
  2. Purchase Lighting (LEDs, Fans, fluros, flood lights, external feature lights and pendents)
  3. Get quotes for Render (underway)
  4. Decide on colour for Render
  5. Get quotes for driveway
  6. Confirm Pool Installer
  7. Get quotes from Landscapers
So still a few jobs to go yet for us .... but the list is finally getting smaller!

Next stage is for the final drawings to be produced (approx 1 week), the allocation of labour and materials (approx 2 weeks) ..... and then hopefully it should be all go!

It is finally becoming a reality.
